Wow David, that describes this morning exactly. A few leaves lying, some crickets chirping and a hoot owl hooting now and then in the still morning. The table becons to sit and listen as the swans and geese gather on two lakes by us. One can hear animal and bird sounds a mile away its so still. The squirrel squabble over acorns add their din as well.
I actually heard two owls this morning, calling hooting back and forth to each other from about a quarter of a mile apart. Every critter on the tree dotted prairie was praying for day light.
I sat out on the back porch this morning and wrote about what I heard. The sun wasn’t up yet, so I couldn’t see much beyond the porch. I heard the crickets and two owls 🦉 and spotted leaves scattered within reach of the porch light. This became my haiku.
