holiday lights fade
as stark winter shadows grow
yet the gift remains
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Excellent haiku. He’s always there, through good times and bad.

Yes, He is—even when we cannot see Him.

Amen. Immanuel. The gift who remains with us all the days of our lives.

I like it David. What a contrast. What blessings in the “gift” that no winters cold shadows can darken.
We will keep those boughs and lights lining the deck all winter. Probably until Easter, unless the deer get hungry, then they will be deer food. The boughs are from a tree top that broke off in high winds by the cabin. They will make the deck look warmer in tonight’s -20(f) chill.

Something about the broken bough with the Christmas lights brought to mind how most gifts wear out or fade. But God’s greatest present (Christ) does not.
It was 4 degrees Fahrenheit when we woke up this morning, with a feels like it -13. That’s very cold for these parts.

That is quite cold for down there. Stay warm. That is our normal this time of year, but our houses are more insulated and outside clothing more heavy duty. We might hit -50 wind chill factor tonight and tomorrow morning.
You are right, God’s presence does not dim.
What a warm thought.

A beautiful poem, David, to transition us from the brilliantly lighted holiday season into the darker winter months with the reminder that the hope of Jesus Christ remains unchanged.
