a warm Spring shower
turns perilous on the plains
rain-wrapped tornado
a snail climbs a rail
it took her over an hour
once at the top: “Whee!”

across the winter pasture
all cows congregate
noble frosted spruce
soaking up the winter sun
nothing but blue skies
pitter-patter rain
like clockwork ticking windows
counting down to snow.
holiday lights fade
as stark winter shadows grow
yet the gift remains
