Autumn’s Last Leaf

the brisk autumn breeze

unwavering frigid rain

last leaf on the tree

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV)

This haiku was inspired by the first song on Willie Nelson’s 76th studio album, “Last Leaf on the Tree.” and “The Last Leaf,” a poem by Oliver Wendell Holmes SR. and a short story called The Last Leaf, by O. Henry.

Autumn’s Landing

On the tree-lined street

blazing, brilliant golds and reds

like leaf landing lights
